"the
seventies"
The selfrighteous director,
1974,
oil on linen, 101x76 cm,
Ref. 743003
Works from the 70s in oil paint have their own
place in my oeuvre. The open lines and clear colour planes make the images
directly accessible. They approach the characteristics of a
cartoon drawing. The choice of mainly male
figures shows a businesslike attitude, which is related to my working
environment of these years and my critical attitude towards authority. The
portraits of the self-confident man leave no doubt about the
self-righteousness of the policy makers with functions such as director. A
single female figure is a suffering victim.
As an encore, photos can be seen of the
African traditional people in the immediate post-colonial period. And from
the start of decolonization in Angola, where 10 years later the Cubans made
an end to the Apartheid in South Africa by decisively winning the war in
Cuito Cuanavale.
In the 70s we lived in central and southern
Africa.
