Die Triumphbogen, 1993
Oil and acrylic on cotton, 150x116 cm, Collection: Instituut Defensie Leergangen, Rijswijk (The Hague) [1995], Note: After a model by Albert Speer for the proposed Berlin 'Arc de Triomph'
Reference: 932505

The painting 'Die Triumphbogen' is a philosophical statement not only about war and victory, but also about the loss of human values; the widow of the 'victory' looks out into uncertainty. War, although seemingly distant, suddenly becomes a reality, the heat of guided missiles have scorched the skin of the artist and he is unable to avoid the theme, A.D. 1993.
