Mapi Rivera (Huesca, 1976). studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona
and at the Saint Martins University of London. Currently, she is researching the
thesis “The numinous sense of light“. She has an extensive curriculum with
exhibitions in France, Germany, Spain and since 2007 in Amsterdam.
Mapi Rivera uses photography and video as her means of expression, as she digs
into the essence of her own body and soul. In “Heliosis” we see Mapi Rivera in
the centre of the world, ice and volcanics, amid the clouds of the unknown, as
well as at the summit of mountains. The project has been developed by her in an
elegant, sincere visual outburst, and it is a display of intimacy, a spiral of
steps and footprints that leave behind embers of cosmic clarity. Rivera pays
tribute to philosophers and mystique thinkers such as Meister Eckhart, Hildegard
of Bingen and Saint Teresa of Jesus and finds herself in a permanent state of
spiritual elevation in an attempt to find the convulsive centre. Mapi Rivera in
her creative mystical purity reaches for the extreme and the sacred. (from a
