Chantal van Houten
Chantal van Houten (Alphen aan den Rijn,1979) finished the academy of media and art in Amsterdam in 2005 and worked several years as a graphic designer. In her free work she focusses on human figuration, with mostly portraits on small formats painted in oil. She combines free expression with hard line elements that remind us of her earlier work in graphic design. Her imaginary
portraits convey a variety of strong emotional expressions. There is also a tangible social engagement in much of her work. She is internationally active with exhibitions and through the media in Berlin, NY, London and New Delhi. This is her first exhibition at Art Singel 100.
